Dear Challenger Families,
I know that our weather lately has not been cooperating, but summer is just around the corner. There are still many important events that we have coming at the end of the school year, but nothing is as important as the work that you can do with your students over the summer.
Research states that unless most students continue to read over the summer they can lose two to four months worth of learning. There are a lot of fun things that you can do with your students that involve learning and there is even some reading in these as well.
*Take a trip to the local library. The library has wonderful programs that are geared towards students and summer reading. Go with your student and check out all that the library has to offer!
*Check out the Everett Children’s Museum. This is a great place to take your kids and they will literally last all day long. There are plenty of areas where students can interactive play and even a playground on top of the building that is unmatched. When your students begin to wear down (they do eventually, don’t they?) then you can head to their little library that they have indoors. Snuggle up and find time to read a book or two.
*Check out the local coffee shops, bookstores, library or churches for story hour. Story hour is a great time to bond with your children while experiencing a special story.
Have a great summer. See you in the fall! Dirk Adkinson, Challenger Principal
