In order to set journal alerts in EBSCOhost,
start by clicking on the "publications" tab in the sub-tool bar. From there,
click on the journal of interest (which are listed in alphabetical
order). Within each journal page, there is a link in the upper right that
says "journal alert". Clicking on this brings you to a page which offers the
user the ability to personalize EBSCOhost. In order to set these alerts as an
individual, each user must simply create their own account. So, at this
point, just click on "I'm a new user" and fill in the necessary info. Once
you have done this, you are now logged in as a personal user. (If you have an
account created already, this step is not necessary....just use your existing
user id and password that you created in a previous session.) At this point,
you are in the journal alert section, and should see detail regarding the
journal you originally chose. Then you can fill in the blanks on this page by
choosing how long you wish to run the alert, which e-mail addresses to which
the system will send alerts, etc. You must set journal alerts on a journal by
journal basis.
You can also set up alerts based on searches
that you have created, and have the system automatically run your search(es)
on a regular interval, and e-mail the results to you. This is accomplished
via the Advanced Search Page. Once you have run a search in the advanced
mode, there will be a blue tab labeled as "search history/alerts". If you
click on this, you can then click on a tab that allows you to "save
search/alert" which is where you would select e-mail addresses to alert, name
your e-mail, etc. Please note that the system requires you to login as a
personalized user if you wish to set up this type of alert. Once you have
logged in as a personalized user, you will see that the EBSCOhost logo in the
upper left hand corner of the pages is labeled as "My EBSCOhost", with you
name beneath it.
If you have already created a personalized
account, you can log into this as soon as you are into EBSCOhost by clicking
just below the EBSCOhost icon in the upper left hand corner where it says
"Sign in to My EBSCOhost". As soon as you are signed in, you can retrieve
past search history, generate alerts, etc. PLEASE NOTE: As of today, search
history only appears in the Advanced Search mode....and searches appearing in
this history are only those that were launched while the user was in the
advanced mode. (We will add this functionality to the basic search mode in a
future upgrade of EBSCOhost.)
