MID TRIMESTER
Mid Trimester grading is Tuesday for all students and grades are available via Parent Connect on Wednesday. Parents of students earning less than a C will receive notification in the mail this week.
THIRD SEASON SPORTS – WRESTLING TURN OUTS
Coach Stelling and the Hawk wrestling program are inviting 6th graders to join in as intramural participants this year. Intramural participants will turn out with the wrestling team daily. While 6th graders are not allowed to compete against other schools or travel to away matches, they will be learning skills that will jump start their wrestling careers next year.
In order to participate, intramural athletes must complete the same paperwork that all other athletes do and must have a current physical on file in the athletics office. They also must stay academically eligible. Athletics eligibility packets are available in Student Services, the Athletics office and online at the HP website.
TRIMESTER WEB SOCIAL EVENT
The second trimester WEB social event will be held Wednesday between 3 and 4P in the commons. Thanks to all the 6th grade students and WEB leaders who turned in your permission slips on time for the Pizza Feed. See you there!
NEW CLUB: ASTHMA CLUB
The first meeting of the Asthma Club will be held on Thursday, January 31st in N206 fro 3-4P. Ms. Thorsen, our school nurse, will be holding the meetings. Parents are also welcome to attend along with students. The January 31st meeting will be Allergies and Asthma – What is the connection? The February 7th meeting will be Changing Asthma Inhalers – CFC vs HFC and Our Environment.
8th GRADE BABY PICTURES
The turn in for 8th grade baby pictures has been extended to Thursday, January 31st. Photos must be handed in to 1st period teachers. Original pictures will be returned.
CANNED FOOD DRIVE
The canned food drive has been extended through this week. Our goal is 9000 items, or 3000 per grade level. The drive ends THIS Friday. Donations should be turned in during 1st period each day.
GEOGRAPHY BEE
Sarah Kirkpatrick was the winner of our Geography Bee. Sarah will be taking a written test to determine whether she will compete in the state competition in April.
SPELLING BEE
Language Arts classrooms are holding competitions to decide finalists for the Spelling Bee to be held February 13th in the library at 3:15P. Students can access the www.myspellit.com website for practice suggestions and word lists. Sign-ups for 8th graders are with Mrs. Skowyra. Competitions for 8th grade finalists will be held after school in W212 Wednesday, February 6th. Students are encouraged to talk with their Language Arts teacher to find out more details about how to get involved.
The school representative will receive a FREE one-year subscription to Britannica Online Student Edition (a $69.95 value). This student will then go on to represent HP at the Regional Spelling Bee to be held in late March in Seattle where he/she could win a trip to Washington DC!
SPRING MUSICAL
Audition sheets for the Spring Musical, “The Wizard of Oz” can be picked up in the Library. They permission slips are due back to Mrs. Erickson (Library) by Thursday, February 7th. When the slips are returned, the students may pick up a “practice sheet.” Auditions are February 11th and 12th with “callback” on February 13th. The cast list will be posted on Friday, February 15th.
CANDY GRAMS
The National Junior Honor Society is sponsoring a “Candy Gram” sale during the week of Valentines Day. The sale will be before school and during lunches Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (February 11 – 13). Candy grams will be delivered on Valentines Day during 6th period. Each gram is $1 and includes a sucker plus a personal message.

THIRD SEASON SPORTS
3rd Season Sports (Girls Basketball and Wrestling) begin turn out on Tuesday. If sports packets have not been completed, your child will not be able to participate in the first turn out. Forms are available in Student Services, from Mr. Nelson or on the school website (http://schools.mukilteo.wednet.edu/hp/pages/athletics1.htm). If forms were completed for first or second season sports, no other paperwork is required. (Feel free to change the date until new forms are available.)
