Our first Parent Coffee for the year is TOMORROW.
Please sign in at the Main Office and then head to room N106 (turn left out of
the office, turn left down the North Hall and N106 is the first door on your
right). Our topic is Introduction to the New Math Program and our
guest speaker is Mary Ellen Huggins, MSD Math Coach. She will discuss math
pathways in middle school and high school, why the change to the new math
program, why this particular program was chosen, and how you can access the
website and ways to help your student.
SPIRIT WEEK
Students are encouraged to show their spirit and dress up
each day in the theme developed by our Leadership Class. During lunches
awards are given out for various categories. Go Hawks!
NATURAL HELPERS AND HP HOSTS
Our Natural Helpers are trained to be peer counselors and help students talk through their problems. They are trained at an overnight retreat here at school sometime in November. Your student must be able to make it to the retreat for training to be a Natural Helper. They can earn up to nine hours of your Community and Service requirement at the retreat. HP Hosts show new students around and help them out their first days at HP. They also help out at parent nights and the 5th grade tour in the spring. This is another great way to earn some community and service hours!
If your student is interested in participating in either of these programs, have
them go to Student Services and pick up an application. When filling out,
have them treat it like a job application and answer the questions completely
and with their best handwriting. They are due to Student Services by
this Friday the 9th.
AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES AND CLUBS
All students are welcome to join the activities and clubs
available after school. As a reminder, the students should purchase an ASB
membership to participate and there are NO activity buses available this year –
parents will need to coordinate transportation for their child.

STUDENT PHOTOS
Student photos were distributed last Thursday during 6th

Any student having their photo retaken needs to return their original photo
packet to the photographers. Any students absent on the original photo day
should be photographed on retake day. Packages may be purchased on retake

NATIONAL JUNIOR HONOR SOCIETY
National Junior Honor Society invitation letters went out on Friday, October 2nd. Any questions should be addressed to Mrs. DeKlyen or Mrs. Riccardo, Co-Advisors. SCHOOL BUS COUNT WEEK IS NEXT WEEK
Our district will count students who ride the bus to school for the State of
Washington starting next Monday, October 12th and ending on Friday,
October 16th. Transportation revenue for our district is
determined solely on the data collected. Students will be counted each
morning. If your child rides the bus to school, it is very important
they ride during this time!!!
BEFORE AND AFTER SCHOOL DROP OFF
Reminder: When coming to the school before or after the school day –
whether you are dropping a child or not - there is only ONE LANE IN and ONE LANE
OUT. No, you cannot drive around the line even if you are coming to
the school and need to park. Please plan ahead during those times of day –
it does get crowded and backed up and you will need to wait in the line.
