Welcome to the 2009 – 2010 School Year!  The first day of each week I send out an email with items such as the activities for the week; heads up on future events; any information I think will assist you as a parent; volunteer needs; and the arts, sports, and after school club calendars.

PARENT INFORMATION

LOCKER PROBLEMS

We are experiencing problems with a number of lockers today and some students may need to carry their backpack for a few days.  We are working through the problems but it will be a couple of days to sort them all out.  Students have been told to go to Student Services and fill out a form.  Student Services will call the students down as their locker combination is fixed.  Assure you student it will be resolved ASAP and to have patience!

 

NEW MATH BOOKS

A new math curriculum has been adopted and with that comes new books!  Very large books…   The Math teachers will be explaining to their classes how students with internet access can access the books online.  In some cases CD’s will be available to use.  Remind your child that they need to keep the weight in those backpacks down and using the internet instead of hauling home the math book is an option.

 

FIRST DAY PACKETS

First Day Packets are being sent home with your student today.  Please take the time to go through the forms and return any that are appropriate.  You will also receive a copy of the school district calendar in the packet.

 

SCHOOL PHOTOS

Also in the first day packet is the form for School Photos.  They will be taken next Wednesday, the 9th of September.  All students will have their photo taken.  If you wish to purchase the photos, students MUST bring the completed form and payment ON THAT DAY.  Checks should be made payable to “QSP”.

 

WASL SCORES

The scores from last spring’s WASL tests will be distributed at the Open House on September 22nd.  If you are not in attendance that night, the scores will be mailed home to you.  The scores are also posted on Parent Connect.  You can sign in and go to the “Testing” tab to see the results now!

 

SCHOOL SUPPLY LIST

SCHOOL LUNCHES

During the 2009-2010 school year, the cost of school meals increased by 25¢.  Elementary lunch will be $2.25 and secondary lunch will be $2.50.

 

ARTS CALENDAR

MUSIC BOOSTERS

The first HP Music Boosters meeting for the school year will be next Tuesday, September 8th at 7P in the Choir/Orchestra Room.  The 12th Annual Music Boosters Dinner Auction will be held November 21st at the Nile Golf and Country Club.  The theme this year is “Feelin’ Groovy.”  Mark your calendar and plan to attend this fun filled evening!

 

SPORTS CALENDAR

Our sports program was affected by the district budget cuts.  It is the first time we have not had interscholastic 7th grade teams and our Athletic Directors, Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Henry are working through the impact of the cuts. 

 

Please note, the following sports are available to 7th grade students:  Cross Country, Girls Softball, Wrestling, Swimming, and Track & Field.  We will also be offering intramural sports for 6th and 7th grade students – details coming! 

 

Practice begins TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 8th for Fall Sports.  Eligibility forms MUST BE turned in before athletes may participate in practice.  The Athletic Paperwork packets are available in the Main Office at HP and during lunches from Mrs. Lawrence.  Students must have and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA at the most recent grading period and be passing all classes.  Students must purchase an ASB membership.

 

GIRLS SOFTBALL

Combined 7th and 8th grade team.  Please bring your gear the first day of try outs.  Practice will run from 3 to 5P.  This is a cut sport.  First game:  Wednesday, September 23rd.

 

FOOTBALL

8th grade only.  Equipment will be distributed after school today.  First game: Thursday, September 24th.

 

CROSS COUNTRY

Combined 7th and 8th grade team.  Bring your running shoes for turn out on the first practice day. First meet:  Wednesday, September 23rd.
