Chess Club

Chess Club has begun it's season after school in Mr. Hedlund's room (East Campus 212).  You can still join us if you would like to participate.  All levels of play are welcome.  Practices are on Mondays and Thursdays from 2:15-3:45.  (If there is enough interest, Tuesdays will be included.)

We are looking forward to a successful season.  Last year, the team came up one win short of going to the state championship tournament.  With most players returning from last year and new talent arriving this year, the Chess Club goes into the season with high expectations.

Our first competition will be the Wesco Jamboree on November 15th at Everett High School.  Returning co-captains and team anchors include Brian Mathes, Koichi Sato, and Jared Chow.

“They all laughed when I sat down at the chessboard.  But the laughing stopped when I played Smyslov’s variation of the Ruy Lopez opening and crushed my opponent with a queen skewer.”

Unlike football or biology, chess is an important social skill that you will continue to use for many years after you leave high school.  Chess will build your confidence, self-esteem, and other personal characteristics with no real market value.

Be a winner!  Join Chess Club.
