DIALECTICAL JOURNAL FOR STARRED NOVEL
DIRECTIONS:
1. Divide your paper into two columns. In the first column, you will write
the quote or passage you’ve selected along with the page number where it can be
found. In the second column, you will analyze how the author used the literary
term and how it impacted the plot or a theme of the story. You will also make
connections between the passage and your own experiences (other books, movies,
television, people you know, etc..)
2. The suggested length of each response should be between ¾ of a page to 1 ½ pages since it is only written in one column.
3. Use 12 point font and double spaced the text.
4. Your choice of quotes should be from various parts of the novel.
TOPIC: Choose a total of 6 quotes. 2 of the quotes need to relate to the literary term setting; 2 of the quotes need to relate to the literary term character; 1 of the quotes needs to relate to the literary term point of view; and 1 of the quotes needs to relate to the literary term mood.
Note: There will be an objective test for the novel in column 1
