Dress Code

School clothing shall be neat, clean and appropriate for classroom learning.  Shirts/tops must extend to the belt, no midriff showing.  Shorts/skirts must extend to the fingertips.  No revealing skirt/shorts tops or pants.  Shirts and shoes must be worn at all times.  The straps of sleeveless shirts must be 2 inches wide.  No underwear or bra straps are to be showing.  Students who wear clothing that promotes alcohol, tobacco, sexist/racist themes, profanity, offensive logos, violence, will be asked to change or be sent home.  Drugs, illegal/ dangerous weapons, or sexual connotations are not permitted.  Based on these guidelines, all school staff will use this description to decide the appropriateness of student dress.  Shirts and shoes that do not sacrifice safety must be worn at all times.

Electronic Devices and Music Systems

 

 

Telephones and Pagers

The use of electronic devices is prohibited to reduce disruption to the educational process of the school day.  Students are discouraged from bringing them to school.  Mukilteo Schools are NOT responsible for theft, damage or loss of personal property.

Students may carry these items as long as they do not cause disruption.  Students will not be given permission to call from classes or to leave to answer a page.  The use of cell phones and pagers are prohibited during the school day.  Phones must be turned off or silenced so that there is no disruption to the educational process.

Confiscation until end of the day

Gang-like Behavior

Leaving Class without Permission

Students are to remain in class unless and until teachers give them permission to leave.

Civil and Legal Rights of Students in Disciplinary Action

     The consequences for an offense may vary depending upon the nature of the offense and any extenuating or exceptional circumstances.  If law enforcement authorities are contacted, they may take action separate from the school.

   Any student, parent or guardian who is aggrieved by the imposition of discipline or short term suspension shall have the right to an informal conference with the building principal.  This must take place within three (3) days.  Long term suspensions must be appealed through  the District Hearing Officer.  Requests must be made in writing within three (3) days.

·         Time Out:  Teachers may send a student to the Time Out room for a period when their behavior interferes with the learning environment.  After a student has been referred to the Time Out room 3 times by the same teacher or five times during a semester, they will be assigned three days In-school Suspension.<
