Miss School and Miss Out
When kids miss school they miss out on important learning. Children who attend school consistently do better on state tests and are more confident learners. Being late for school hurts learning too. Students miss out on important beginning of the day instruction and struggle to catch up.
You can show that school is important by making sure your child arrives to school on time each day. Legitimate reasons for keeping a child home include:
Fever - temperature of 100 degrees or higher
Vomiting - two or more times in the last 24 hours
Eyes - drainage from the eye or pink eye
Greenish nose discharge and/or chronic cough
Rash - body rash accompanied by fever or itching
Diarrhea - 3 or more watery stools in a 24 hour period, especially if the child acts or looks ill
Lice or scabies - needs to be treated right away so child can return to school the next day
If your child must miss school, please call the office before school to let us know. The office can then notify your child's teacher, and arrange to have homework readied for you to pick up.
