SHIP Award Criteria

At Olympic View, we are constantly looking for ways to recognize students. One way we do this is by awarding students who help to create a positive climate at Olympic View with a SHIP Award.

Once a quarter, staff members nominate students who they feel fulfill the criteria for one or more of the following areas:

Workmanship:

  • Student demonstrates a strong desire to meet and/or exceed standard, setting goals for continued progress and achievement.
  • Student completes assignments with care and turns them in on time; paying attention to the details to make each assignment the best it can be based on his/her ability.
  • Student is prepared for class each day with necessary materials and attitude needed to be ready for success.

Citizenship:

  • Student works actively to uphold the School Code of Conduct; being part of the solution.
  • Student exemplifies integrity—doing what is right, even if no one is looking.
  • Student accepts and promotes diversity, and is kind to all, helping make OV a place where everyone feels welcome.
  • Is intrinsically motivated to participate in community service.

Scholarship:

  • Student excels in subject matter, continually exceeding standard on course work.
  • Synthesizes learning from different areas to construct deeper understanding of content.
  • Communicates and applies content in a way that demonstrates exceptional knowledge of the subject.

Leadership:

  • Student leads in words and actions, inspiring others to excellence.
  • Student is a good citizen.
  • Demonstrates confidence and maturity.
  • Stands up for what they believe while maintaining respect for other opinions.

Over the course of the school year (four quarters), students have a chance to earn a SHIP Award in each of the four areas listed above. If so, they are awarded the “First Mate” Award at the conclusion of the school year.
