In my classroom, I promote independence and self-management. My students participate in a "level" system. There are three different levels students can be on. Level Three students are our self-managers, and are allowed to have full classroom privileges. Level Two students are in transition, and have partial classroom privileges. Level One students are focusing on a specific area of improvement, and have no classroom privileges. Students maintain Level Three status by turning in work on time and following school expectations. Once a student has received three fines in one month, they are dropped down a level, and must earn their way back up. Students at Level One have a plan created, specific to their needs, and must follow the plan correctly to earn their way back to the upper levels.
Our school expectations are: Mutual Respect, Attentive Listening, No Put Downs, Appreciations, Right to Pass, and Safe Hands.

In our school, we grade on a 4, 3, 2, 1 scale. A four is considered above grade level. I see this as a student who not only follows the criteria given, but adds extra details and effort. This student goes well beyond the normal requirements. A three is considered at grade level. To me, a student at grade level is following the directions given and produces quality work. A two is considered below grade level. I think a student earning a two usually just needs a little more clarification or practice. I like to have students who earn a two fix or finish the assignment and resubmit it for another review. A one is considered to be not making progress. I rarely grade students at this level unless they did not make any effort to do the assignment or attempt to fix and finish their work.

If you would like to reach me, our school phone number is (425) 356-1304. My mailbox number is #4702. If you wish to dial directly to my mailbox (skipping the ME office staff), dial 170-4434, press option 2, then dial mailbox 4702, finally press the pound sign. To report absences or get same day information to your student, please be sure to call the school secretary directly. If you call the school before or after school hours (8am-4pm), you will reach the voicemail option immediately. I try to check my voicemail each morning upon arrival, and once before leaving for the evening.
If you plan to join us as a volunteer during the school day, please be sure to check in at the office, sign in, and wear a volunteer button. My classroom door remains locked during the day, and I require all parents entering the room to have followed the school policy regarding parent volunteers.
