Ms. Lynn Aalbu's 5th Grade Classroom

Picnic Point Elementary

General Classroom Information

Birthdays - We all love to celebrate each and every child's special day. If you are wanting to have the class celebrate your child's birthday, I recommend you send a simple treat (cookies, cupcakes, popsicles, etc). I do ask that you do not send ice cream, soda pop, or cake. Also keep in mind that some kids have food allergies (please no nuts!).
Please remember that Mukilteo School District has a policy of store bought items only. Send your special treats with your child in the morning. We will celebrate when time allows during the day.
Book Orders - Our class will have book and software orders each month from Scholastic. This is a great way for your child to find a book that interests them and is at their reading level for a cheap price. You can send a check made out to Scholastic Book Clubs or you can order them online. To learn more or to begin ordering, click here.

Field Trips - All of the 5th grade classrooms take a few special field trips each year. In April, we take a Science trip on Argosy Cruises to discover sea life of the Puget Sound. This Biology field trip has limited space but is a wonderful learning experience for all students. Towards the end of the year, we get the privilege to celebrate the end of our elementary careers through a few other field trips, including 5th grade Olympics and 5th Grade Celebration.

Homework - Yes, homework! It is a very important part for students to build their stamina for Middle School and all the work they will be getting. I require students finish any papers that were unfinished in class. I also assign nightly reading which helps students become life long learners. Occasionally, there will be math or language arts homework coming home. Please check out our Homework Calendar for what is due today.
Due Dates
All assignments are due the following day it's assigned. If a student does not turn in an assignment on time, they must spend their recess at Study Hall. Below are some recurring dates throughout the year.

  • Weekly Summary -- due every Monday (signed by parent)
  • Reading Log -- due every Monday (signed by parent)
  • Poems -- last two days of the month
  • Book Report -- last day of the month (unless otherwise stated)
Patrol - Many students in our class are participating in Patrol. It's a great group that is a privilege to be a part of. Many responsibilities come with being on Patrol, including being a good role model for other students throughout the day, as well as making up any assignments missed while on duty.
Weekly Summary - Each Friday, I send home a "Weekly Summary" with your child. This document will keep you updated on your child's behavior, study skills, and any late or missing assignments from the week. I ask that you review it each week with your child, sign it, and return it to school on Monday. This will be an assignment for the students. If you have any questions, feel free to email me or write a note back on the report.
