OLYMPIC VIEW CHOIR

Choir-Choir is a co-curricular activity that grades students for events during school hours, performance outside school hours, and class participation.

Essential Learnings- Music classes help in the progress of students towards achieving the goals of essential learnings in communicating effectively through different means including notation, musical expression and comprehension.  Students also learn to apply the concepts they learn analytically and creatively not only to the arts but to other areas such as mathematics and writing, to solve problems in logical and individual ways.  Being aware of the results of their discipline and continued effort in music helps to build this ability in all areas, and allows students to perceive the future benefits of their dedication.

Concerts/Performances- Performance attendance is required!  Performance dates are scheduled well in advance and available on my website.   All members of the ensemble depend upon one another to do their part and contribute to the “team” as a whole.

I  need to be informed by a parent or guardian, in writing, at least three weeks in advance that a student will miss a scheduled performance.  Under these circumstances, an absence is considered excused.

GRADING POLICY

Students will be assessed in alignment with the Washington State and national standards for music in grades 6-8.  A scale of 1-4 will be employed to inform parents and students of the student’s progress towards meeting and exceeding standard in the assessed areas.  There will also be an assessment of the student’s day to day class behavior, preparedness, and participation.  This “Musicianship” component will not be calculated as part of the class grade.
