Information on Graphing
Graph
paper should be used unless done by computer and a grid should be overlaid at
that time. Holes present should be on the left side or top of the graph. If
stapled, it should be in the upper left corner.
Read
from the bottom or right side of packet if attached to other sheets.
The
graph title is displayed.
Axis
and units are labeled with both quantity graphed and units of measure.
Unit
divisions are appropriate and consistent with data to full axis.
All
points plotted as instructed.
Smooth
curve or straight lines are inserted via hand or computer to match the data
behavior. Equations and regression values are desirable describing the data. Do
not "connect the dots".
Proper
format is observed. Numbers consistently increase from left to right or bottom
to top.
Proper
scale is used. Curves must be at least half the page in both length and width.
Hint - Choose a convenient value just below the lowest data value and increment
consistently to a value just above the largest data. Mark these regular
intervals on the axis to fill it.
Graph
using decimals for values less than 1. Do not use fractions.
Marked
divisions should be "round" values that are legible and line up with
the marks on the graph. Do not mark the graph with the values of the data.
