This
course offers many different learning techniques. Students will be able to:
- Identify their
personal overall health and wellness and develop a plan to improve, build on
and problem solve health issues.
- Develop a fitness
plan.
- Evaluate accuracy of
health information and products.
- Understand self esteem
and how it relates to themselves and others.
- Recognize self esteem
in relation to human growth and development.
- Apply communication
skills to problem solve conflict through refusal skills, coping and advocacy
skills.
- Recognize harassment,
intimidation and bullying.
- Understand healthy
relationships and how to improve them through various relationship building
skills.
- Identify stressors,
how to cope and decrease stress in their life.
- Understand the warning
signs of depression and suicide.
- Be aware of the
effects of drugs, tobacco and alcohol personally, in their families and
society.
- Demonstrate refusal
skills.
- Recognize the
importance of vitamins, nutrients and water based on individual needs and
personal activity level.
- Interpret food labels
and consumer advertising to distinguish quality foods to meet their
nutritional needs.
- Describe eating
disorders warning signs, health risks and how to get help if they or someone
they know are suffering from an eating disorder.
- Understand the growth
and development of males and females.
- Explain the importance
of abstinence, sexual responsibility and pregnancy prevention methods.
- Identify the symptoms,
modes, prevention and treatments for STD’s and STI’s.
- Be aware of violence
within relationships.
- Have an overall
understanding of pregnancy through labor and delivery as well as parenting.
- Identify local
resources available to them to address health and wellness issues.
- Identify careers in
the health profession industry.
