All About Mrs. Nelson

Home

What can I tell you about myself?  I am married and have three wonderful children.  While I consider all of them teenagers, our oldest daughter is actually 23  It doesn't seem possible!  With that said, I understand some of your parenting frustrations communicating with teens.  Our family has lived in Mukilteo for 23 years, and I have lived in Washington my entire life.  We have a cocker spaniel, Toby, who is by far the most spoiled member of our family.  My favorite activities are going to the beach, snow skiing,  jogging, and spending time with my family.

This year I am a National Board Certificate teacher candidate.  What this means is I am a student too!  The purpose of taking on the challenge of National Board Certification is to improve my teaching and ultimately your child's learning.  It is a long difficult process that I am very excited to be a part of.

I have been teaching 7th grade literacy at Voyager for four years, and I love it!  We use a workshop model in our classroom.  What this means is we have a meeting area where I conduct short 10-15 minute mini-lessons and then the students go back to their seats and practice what they learned.  The students have many reading choice options and different ways to write about their reading.  Ask your child to see his/her Literacy Journal.  I think you'll be surprised about the many different ways they car respond to their reading.  My hope is your child has a wonderful experience while improving their reading and writing skills.
