Sixth grade science in the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Program (IBMYP) involves students in the activities of ethical science. Curriculum content has been selected with the understanding that science has been influenced by culture and history, and is continually influenced by our changing society. Students will become aware of science as a global endeavor in our international community. Through ‘hand’s-on,’ ‘mind’s-on’ inquiry activities, students will develop a foundation of the scientific process and problem solving skills which will create scientifically literate young people. Students will be engaged in a variety of activities to support their learning, such as carrying out investigations using scientific tools, observing and recording data, as well as analyzing, interpreting and reporting their findings. Other activities will include creating projects, monitoring current events, and developing models. Throughout the activities assigned, students will be expected to be cooperative colleagues just as is true in the scientific community. Science is not an individual-endeavor. |
