Excellent Student Work

The example of "Where We're From" below is a class poem made in Intermediate ELL class in May 2005.  We constructed the poem with lines from our own student poems.  Each student wrote  a poem called "Where I'm From".  Then, each student chose their best or favorite lines. We combined those lines to make this poem. It  represents many of the experiences and places that make us who we are.

"WHERE WE’RE FROM"

I’m from Bela Tserkva- the white church

I’m from cocada and clothes

From sweet candy from El Salvador

Warm and clean

In the ocean, the Marshall Islands

are clean

From Everett

Where I was happy

I am from the picture of my boyfriend

Cars and noisy factories

I’m from lost victory

Stalin’s valleys of death

And something that was scary to all the world

My sister, brother, father and mother

From the country which doesn’t have freedom

I am from “Ce mai faci?”

“Bine” we say in my country, Romania

because “De klan tam I Zona”

I’m from my boyfriend

From born of the best sentiments

I’m from Gigante and Deportivo

I am from the book

Under my bed was a big box of trees

I’m from the snow.

Because he is my favorite basketball player,

I watched Michael Jordan movies

When I was there

In a nice city

And waiting for when I finish this poem.
