10-20 TEST

10-21-  went over supply and demand.  The examples given were for candy bars and haircuts.  It is the unit on Economics as one of the Social Science perspectives. There is a flipchart available that shows the chart. Define market, supply, and demand and have the ability to recreate the chart that shows the relationship between supply and demand.  Test Friday.

10-22  Discussed pooling the classes money together to start a lawn mower company.  Each person ( assuming that there are 30 people) gives one name of a person who agrees to have their lawn mowed  two times a month for 25$.  Each person also gives 100$ to invest in a lawn mower.  We hire a middle school kid to mow the lawns at 5$ a lawn.  He will need to mow 30 lawns twice a month making 60 jobs a month.  If you do the math you will see that we will bring in 750$ a month.  That is our gross income.  We will need to pay the kid 300$ (our cost) to mow the lawns (60 jobs times 5$).  That leaves us 450 dollars (this is our net income).  we can split that up each month (450$ divided by 30=15$ a month)  This would be called your dividend.  You get 15$ a month and you still own 1/30th of the company ( you own one share of the stock in the company).  Even though you bought the share in the company for 100$, it is only worth what people will pay for it.  we could also not take a dividend pay-out and invest the 450 in our company.  If we do a good job, this investment will make our stock worth more.  If we choose to sell our share of the stock we can get more money from it.
