Welcome

Dear Parents:

Welcome to the 5th grade! My name is Mr. Tepley. I grew up in Stanwood, Washington and attended Washington State University, earning a teaching degree.

A school wide focus this year is the S.T.E.P.S. (Stop-Think-Evaluate-Plan-Solve) thinking process. We are building responsible students, emphasizing positive decision making in and out of the classroom.

Our classroom schedule includes literacy, math, science, social studies, Tribes, and Music/P.E. This year Mukilteo School District adopted a new literacy program (Houghton Mifflin Reading). It combines all facets of literacy focusing on creating independent thinkers and responsible learners. We will continue to work with the Everyday Mathematics curriculum. F.O.S.S. is our science curriculum and offers many hands-on learning opportunities. We will continue exploring social studies related material online and participate in classroom activities. We will also be participating in Tribes, a program focusing on creating a safe and comfortable classroom environment.

Our website, which will be updated soon, can be found at http://www.mrtepley.com. Our classroom website will fill you in with the info you need. Students can find assignments, important classroom documents, and the daily schedule online. We also will be using MOODLE, open source classroom web based software, for online assignments. Technology is a student learning tool in our classroom. Students will be working with technology throughout the year. Our website is a great communication tool. I will also be using email as a form of communication.

I look forward to a wonderful and exciting year! 5th grade is a fun filled year that offers many learning opportunities for your child. I am excited to share this impressionable time with your child and look to you for the help needed to give your child the best educational experience possible.

We will be using YappyDog, an online tool that requires a small cost, $1.00 per student. YappyDog offers online practice of math facts and spelling words that can be used in and out of the classroom.

If you have any questions, do not hesitate to contact me.

Meet Mr. Tepley

This is my eighth year teaching at Mukilteo Elementary. I have taught fourth and fifth grade.

I was born in San Diego and moved to Washington in third grade (1984). I graduated from Stanwood High School in 1994. I attended Washington State University and received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Attending WSU was a highlight for me. I had the opportunity to proudly represent Washington State as the cougar mascot, Butch T. Coug, for two years. I also did an internship as a culinary host at Disneyland, as a Blue Bayou Restaurant Busser.

After graduating, I was hired to teach fourth grade at Mukilteo Elementary school. I have completed a Master's Degree in Educational Technology through Lesley University.

I enjoy traveling, working on the computer, especially creating web pages. I got married in June of 2005 and live in Everett, Washington.

I look forward to working with this year's students. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact me.

Here's to a great year!

Mr. Brandon Tepley
