Introduction
The City of Mukilteo has just informed you that a sports team is coming to town! Can you believe it Mukilteo will be the home of the new team! The buying of the team was the easy part, now comes the team name! The mayor has elected you to decide on a name for the new Mukilteo sports team. The mayor loves history and especially the American Revolution and would like his interest in history to reflect the team name. Get to work and develop the team's handbook and present it to the mayor!

Task
Mukilteo has just purchased a professional sports team. The team's owner has given you the task of choosing the name of the team. The owner is a huge fan of the American Revolution and would like the team to be named related to that time in American history. You must make your city proud by producing a powerfully successful team name! Good luck!

You have decided to research a historical person from the time of the American Revolution and name the team based on their life and accomplishments. Several tasks are ahead, you had better get started.

Conclusion
This project is intended to introduce the people of the American Revolution and present gained knowledge in creative way. Students will critically think to establish a relevant name for a sports team based on their researched historical figure.

Extension Questions:

  • How do you think the person researched would feel about having a sports team named after him or her?

  • If the person researched was alive today, do you think they would be as impacting on society? Why or why not?

Extension Project Ideas:

  • Persuasive essay explaining why the team should be named after the researched person.

  • Persuasive business letter to the mayor persuading him or her to agree on the team name.
